ATTENDANCE AND FIXED PENALITY NOTICES

Posted on: September 2nd 2022

Dear Parent/Carer

ATTENDANCE AND FIXED PENALTY NOTICES

At Corpus Christi Catholic High School we are very keen to encourage all pupils to achieve a maximum attendance at school.  I am sure you would support us in this aim and would agree that children need to be in school to learn effectively.  The Welsh Government target for pupil attendance is 95% and attendance concerns below this may be passed onto the Education Welfare Service.

As you may be aware, Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) for non-attendance were suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic.  However, as we are now returning to normality, the Welsh Assembly have decided to re-introduce fines to parents of pupils with poor attendance and punctuality.  Therefore, we would encourage pupils to attend school regularly and punctually.  Ten sessions (5 days) or more of unexplained absence, late arrival at school or a holiday taken during term time, can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice fine being issued.  Holidays are unauthorised without the Headteacher’s consent.

I would hope that the above action is not necessary for any of our pupils and look forward to your continued support and co-operation.
