Parent UpdatePosted on: March 2nd 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you and your families are safe and well and would like to update you with some key dates and information as we move towards welcoming your children, our pupils, back to face to face learning here at Corpus Christi Catholic High School.
Schedule for reopening
In his most recent statement pertaining to Secondary Schools across Wales, Mark Drakeford announced that “If we continue to see improvements, the intention will be for learners in Year 11 in secondary school….to return from the 15th March”. We anticipate that this date will not be subject to change and are expecting our Year 11 pupils to return to school on Monday, 15th March. We await further guidance relating to Year 7 to Year 10. The existing Hub provision for pupils in Year 7 to Year 10 will continue.
INSET DAY 12TH March
We will be holding an extraordinary INSET Day on Friday 12th March which will involve the Lateral Flow Testing of all staff throughout the morning session, followed by school specific preparatory tasks in the afternoon session.
THERE WILL BE NO ONLINE LESSONS SET ON 12TH MARCH. YOUR CHILD IS ENCOURGED TO CATCH UP ON ANY WORK MISSED
March 15th onwards Year 7 to Year 10
For Year 7 to Year 10, distance learning will continue for all pupils in these Year Groups. We await information from WG regarding the return to school of pupils in Years 7 to 10.
Year 11 Pupils ONLY Monday 15th March (Subject to change made by WG)
All Year 11 pupils will return to school, in full school uniform, on Monday 15th March. We request that for Monday 15th March and the following Monday 22nd March, pupils attend with their own electronic devices and headphones as on these days, pupils will remain in their registration groups where they will continue with their blended learning and online work whilst we conduct mass testing (see below).
Hub Provision for Year 7 to Year 10 from Monday, 15th March
Full school uniform must be worn from Monday, 15th March. Hub attendees in Year 11 will transfer to their registration groups and normal timetable.
Lateral Flow Testing – Year 11
The organisation of pupils in their registration group bubbles for the first Monday of each week will allow us to administer Lateral Flow Tests whilst minimising potential COVID transmission.
Year 11 pupils will be guided through the administration of a self-test using the test kits provided by WG. The first test will take place on Monday 15th March, followed by subsequent testing at seven-day intervals
WG believe that rapid testing using Lateral Flow Tests will support the return to face-to-face learning by helping to detect infection. Testing remains voluntary but is strongly encouraged. It will mean that we will not have to send large groups of children home. Please note that if you do opt out of the testing process, you should be aware that in the event of a positive test in your child’s bubble, your child will be required to stay at home for the usual 10 day isolation period.
Please complete the form below to give your consent for your child to receive a Lateral Flow Test. Consent for pupils in all year groups is required by Thursday, 11th March 2021.
IT IS VITAL THAT NO FOOD OR DRINK IS CONSUMED WITHIN 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE TEST. TESTING WILL NOT BEGIN UNTIL 9.15AM MONDAY 15TH MARCH
Tuesday 16th March to Friday 19th March – Year 11 (Subject to changes made by WG)
All Year 11 pupils will resume their normal curriculum by following their school timetable. A second Lateral Flow Test will be administered on Monday 22nd where, as above mentioned, pupils will be required to bring their own electronic devices and headphones to school. As aforementioned, Year 11 pupils will resume their normal timetable for the remainder of the week.
We await further information from WG pertaining to the regularity of testing Year 11 pupils
The Year 11 week will be as follows:
Monday – Lateral Flow Testing, remain in registration groups, bring laptop and headphones
Tuesday to Friday – normal lesson timetable
Please note that the wearing of face masks remains compulsory for all pupils and staff at all times in any school building.
This does not apply in situations where wearing a face covering would impact on the ability to take part in exercise or strenuous activity, for example PE lessons. Please ensure that your child has a least two masks each day – one as a spare. I am aware that some pupils are exempt from wearing a face mask; if you believe this to be the case, please ensure the relevant Head of Year is aware.
Pupils will be issued with an additional cloth face mask on Monday, 15th March.
I am sure that the vast majority of our pupils are looking forward to returning to school, meeting with their friends and engaging in learning again. May I remind you that from Monday 15th March, school attendance for Year 11 pupils only is mandatory. We are awaiting clarification for the remaining Year Groups. Should your child be concerned about the return to school, please do not hesitate to contact their Head of Year to discuss this.
I hope this letter has provided you with all the information needed and will keep you informed of future developments as we look to opening Corpus Christi to all pupils.
