Parent Update

Dear Parents / Carers

Re: Planned Return @ Corpus Christi Catholic High School.

Further to our recent correspondence, in which we outlined our plans for a phased return, we need to inform you of an important change.

The local authority has made the decision not to proceed with extending the summer term by one week. The original announcement stipulated that the return to school would be for a period of four weeks from 29th June. However, it would appear that Welsh Government and trade unions have not been able to reach agreement on the school term extending into the summer holiday period despite ongoing discussions.

This will mean that Corpus Christi and other schools across Cardiff & Wales will now open for three weeks rather than the previously planned four. The end of the academic year for us at Corpus Christi will be Friday 17th July 2020. Please be assured that this decision is not because of a reluctance of any member of staff at our school, we are all genuinely disappointed that this additional provision will no longer be available.

Over the next few days, we will need to make amendments to our original plan but we are confident that the structure we have in place is robust enough to support any changes. Our primary focus remains to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils and staff here at Corpus Christi.

In order to adhere to the complex health and safety requirements, we need to take into account staffing capacity and ensure continued support for Key Workers. We know that as lockdown measures are eased, there will be more children who will now be classed as Key Worker children. With this in mind, if you wish to access Key Worker pupil provision, you must apply for a place for your child to attend Corpus Christi through Cardiff County Council website using the link below.

The school is unable to allocate this provision and all applications must be processed through Cardiff County Council. This is also a reminder that if your child accesses the keyworker hub provision, they will not be able to join their own Year group on their designated day.

The initial timings will continue as follows:

Week Beginning 29th June

  • Monday - Year 10 and Key Worker/Vulnerable pupils
  • Tuesday - Year 9 and Key Worker/Vulnerable pupils
  • Wednesday - Year 8 and Key Worker/Vulnerable pupils
  • Thursday - Year 7 and Key Worker/Vulnerable pupils
  • Friday - Key Worker/Vulnerable pupils (and also KS2-KS3 Transition)

Arrangements for the autumn term are still under discussion nationally, and we will update you as soon as further information is available.

We appreciate all the hard work and commitment of our staff, students, governors and parents & carers throughout this period. We trust that this announcement enables you to move forward with your plans as we look forward to reopening Corpus Christi and welcoming pupils back safely.

Stay safe & God bless
