School Parking and drop off
1 October 2019 (by Mark Letman (admin))
From Monday 7th October
As you are aware a temporary car park was put in place last year for pupil drop off/pick up. The car park is generating a significant number of traffic movements and congestion directly outside the new schools gates. In addition the land is not owned by the school or Cardiff Council and will be returned to the landowner in the near future. Consequently the car park will close permanently on MONDAY 7th OCTOBER 2019. To clarify, parents are no longer permitted to drive onto the school site from that date without prior permission from the school. You will be able to pick your child up after 4.00pm if your child is participating in after-school activities.
Please can parents avoid picking up and dropping off on double yellow lines directly outside the school gates and on Ty Draw Road. We would encourage parents to park responsibly and considerately in residential side streets and for pupils to walk in. If all parents follow this advice, there will be less traffic movements directly outside the schools gates making it safer for your child to get to school.
To assist parents and pupils, we are working with Cardiff Council to write an Active Travel Plan. The plan will set out how we can support and encourage pupils, staff and parents to travel more actively and sustainably for the journey to school. This will benefit pupil’s health, as well as easing traffic congestion and improving safety around the school gates. We have already started work to identify potential changes and improvements to encourage active travel. These include:
· Funding to install covered, lockable cycle parking within the schools grounds.
· Working with Cardiff Council to design a new path within the school site to provide a pedestrian link to from the Churchlands development spine road
We will be contacting parents in the near future to fully understand travel behaviour on the school journey and to find out how we can effectively embed active travel culture and increase physical activity within our school community. We are sure you will support us in implementing this plan.
